Magnetic Counterbalances
Protection for Vertical Applications
In many vertical applications, it may be necessary to provide a means to prevent the load from suddenly dropping if power is lost. Counterbalance technologies provide a solution to this challenge by adding a counter mass or force that balances the vertical load. Nippon Pulse’s gLess magnetic counterbalance is a unique, passive solution that provides a specific force to prevent falls when power is lost.
Specification Overview
- Three counterbalance stator diameters for 13mm to 26mm
- Multiple rod diameters for up to 13 counterforces - 2N to 26N
- Standard 40mm stroke with longer strokes available on request
gLess Magnetic Counterbalance Advantages
- Simplicity - Passive 2-part device includes a stator housing a unique magnet arrangement and a hybrid ferrous/non-ferrous shaft creating a linear counterforce over the entire stroke.
- Non-Contact - Zero wear, zero maintenance, reliable.
- Compact Package - Minimal stray magnetic field allows minimal space for installation.
- Linear Counterforce - Constant counterforce the entire stroke length simplifies servo tuning, allows optimized tuning for best system bandwidth and quick move and settle.

How to Select the Right gLess Counterbalance for your Application
- Identify the moving mass (in Kg) associated with the vertical axis, including the load attachment.
- Calculate the force (in Newtons) related to the moving mass.
- Select a stator/rod combination that will provide a counterforce greater than or equal to the required force to hold the vertical mass.
- Add weight if needed to balance the upward force. Add or subtract weight to provide an upward or downward bias.
